In an interview with Emel magazine Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams laid into the U.S. by stating that it was a "global hegemonic power" working at accumulating power and control rather than territory; he compared it to the British Empire. He said that it wasn't working and that the result is "the worst of all worlds."
Dr. Williams further stated that the U.S. had lost the high moral ground since 9/11 and that it needed to take steps to provide "generous aid" to those "societies that have been ravaged."
The Archbishop is also highly critical of the war in Iraq and described the violence as "a quick discharge of frustration" where "it serves you. It does not serve the situation."
