You've got to be familiar with the stories of people who have all kinds of cancers and illnesses from the WTC falling and scattering debris. The smoke, glass and fumes spread throughout Manhattan and NYC like a bad SciFi film and engulfed homes, cars, businesses, and people as it went. These people have either been fighting battles for proper medical care or coverage or they are dying in droves. It's sad. The toxic fumes contained things like heavy amounts of asbestos - up to 1000 tons worth (no joke that's why the buildings were eliminated in the first place!), lead, mercury, and, sadly, human remains. Of course, Rudy Guiliani and other USG officials stated that everything was a-okay and clean, that people just had to work harder at cleaning everything up. Well if you believe that line of garbage many New Yorkers would like to sell you some property...
